What I Love About NETFLIX I live in a small town in a rural community, and there is only one video store within a convenient distance. It's small and selection is limited. They get the major new releases, but very few of the independent films or special interest stuff. Back in the VHS days, there were special lower prices for the older tapes, five tapes for five days for seven dollars - but it was hard to find even five tapes I wanted to see. Then when they went all-DVD, they dropped the specials and everything is now the same price. The only deal is that you don't have to return the older releases as soon as the new releases. With Netflix, you only need to rent several DVDs a month to get a better deal than store rental. And the selection is huge! I'm finding lots of older movies, some I remember seeing as a kid, some I keep hearing about from other people and would like to try, some I've never even heard of but sound intriguing. And they really do arrive within one business day. I'm usually mailing things in the late afternoon. The next day I get an e-mail from Netflix telling me they received my return, and the next DVD arrives the day after that. With the three at a time option, you always have something to watch. It's not just theatrical movies that are available. Some other options: Exercise: Did you ever buy an exercise video and discover you didn't like it? Maybe you wanted to try a new type of exercise, so you tried it two or three times and decided it just wasn't for you. Maybe it was your favorite type of exercise, but this particular session was too hard or too easy. Maybe the music or the instructor were just annoying. With Netflix, you can try out an exercise video before you buy a copy. And there's a lot to choose from - pilates, yoga, tae-bo, body sculpting, aerobics, bellydancing, tai-chi. Even if you don't exercise currently, there might be something here you'd like to do. Television Shows: Are your friends telling you that you must watch some great TV show, but you missed the first season or two and have no idea what's going on with it? With Netflix, you can see the seasons you missed and get caught up. Also available are older, now cancelled television shows, probably even some of your childhood favorites. Learn Something: Check out the educational offerings - you can learn to cook or play the guitar. There's some math, Spanish, and dancing. Travel and documentaries. Or you can just rent all the movies you've been wanting to see, delivered right to your home, postage and return postage free. If you're not a member of Netflix, why don't you join now? |
