jazz up your page with fabulous fonts

by Jane Harmon

You can dress up your webpages quickly and easily by using a variety of different fonts, such as in the title above.

To insure that the fonts are visible on computers that don't typically have a wide selection of fonts on them, don't set the fonts in your html - rather, make a graphic and use it as your title.

The graphic above was made in photoshop, using the same color for the background that is used here, so that the words 'blend in'. Please note, however, that any text you place on a graphic isn't searchable by search engines, so if you want the words to be indexed by the 'bots, make sure you use the 'alt text' tag. For the title above, the html looks like this:

Here's examples of many of the fun and interesting fonts you can find out there.

Of course you can use the techniques I discuss in my article "Text types and styles - shadows, fuzzy shadows and embossing" on any of these fonts.

The font I used in the article above is Betty Noir. I also use Betty Noir in the "Jazz up your pages with" text above - it's a great Art Deco look. "Fabulous Fonts" above is done in Medici, which produces a great 'illuminated manuscript' look.

You can get these fonts and thousands more at FontFreak - page through the alphabet for fonts and fonts.

Yet more cool fonts.

The photographs I used as backgrounds on these two font samples are from Hemera.

They offer boxes of hundreds of thousands of images, mainly graphic clip art but also photos such as these.

They are searchable by keywords - I found the top image of the glass globe looking for 'world' and the right image of a mortar and pestle searching for 'herbs'.

Use the Amazon links at left to find many great packages of photos and clipart

Why live with drab webpages when it's so easy to liven them up with photos, art and fancy fonts?
