The great 2007 NaNoWriMo novel writing race is going on NOW!

November means harvesting Halloween candy and defrosting the Thanksgiving turkey and for some obsessive people a time to shame all others by writing their holiday cards early. But for nearly 100,000 writers around the world, November is National Novel Writing Month, when writers of all ages aim to write 50,000 words of a novel between 12:01 am on November 1st and 11:59 pm on November 30th.

The race has started, and if you're already writing, good luck!  if you're not... well, what are you waiting for? It's never too late to sign up. Check details here..,
writers ON STRIKE

After the studios refused to negotiate the major issue of sharing the profits on
content written for so-called 'new media,' with the writers who write that content,
the Writers' Guild of America was forced to call a strike. Get used to re-runs and
even more shlocky 'reality' (unscripted) series on television.

Meanwhile, all you screenwriters, out there, be sure to review the Strike Rules -- basically, do not submit any written material to 'struck companies' (which cover
most of the studios and producers working in and for Hollywood).

For screenwriters not yet members of the WGA, be sure to see Rule 13 especially. Tempted to scab during the walk-out? don't do it-- not if you are planning a professional career.

NEW!     We Were Not Lost, a novel by Bay Area author and screenwriter Constance Kopriva  Inspired by the account of a Pomo descendent, We Were Not Lost reveals the truth about what happened when the missionaries arrived in California, a land already inhabited by an indigenous culture:
"They are not Indians.  That is a name some European gave to a people they
thought were lost.  They were not lost;  it was the European who was lost."
